Other Regions

This website is obviously dedicated to Bordeaux wines, which I started selling back in 2007 & I think will always be my favourite wine region. Back then I was largely just selling on half of my own collection at a small profit to subsidise my own drinking of it! It was great hobby but this has grown into a business that these days primarily sells wines from all regions into pubs & restaurants. A tiny % of that wine is from Bordeaux & I have thorougly enjoyed making my own journey of discovery through the other French regions. I've still some way to go because there's always so much to learn! I also import wines from Spain & Italy & work with other wineries worldwide including Chateau Musar from the Lebanon (who thankfully have UK stock I can draw from which is really very handy!). I won't expand too much here about non Bordeaux, but if you do have a requirement do get in touch & ask for some more specific recommendations. To wet your appetite, here are a few I love drinking & supplying to both restaurants & private clients…

Domaine Treloar in Rousillon. From the southern Languedoc around Perpignan, Domaine Treloar is run by an English/NZ couple. These rich & supple wines are a real triumph of artisan winemaking. They age well (though I usually drink/sell them all before they get too old as there is not very much made). Must do better but it's such good stuff it's irrisistable! They have a number of cuvees, but my faves are the One Block Grenache (£15), Motus Mouvedre (£15+) & top cuvee Tahi (G,S,M £22).

Domaine de Pellehaut in Gascony. A couple of hours south of Bordeaux this large estate produces huge quantities (in this case, that's a good thing!) of unbeatable table wine which is absolutely the best quality I've ever tasted at this level...and I have tasted a lot over a number of years now! It's been run by the same family for 300 years. The entry level Pellehaut Harmonie Rouge, Blanc & Rose start at £7.50 to private clients buying odd bottles, but restaurants who buy it in more volume obviously get it much cheaper. If I owned a pub, bar or restaurant this would be my house wine, but I often find that trade clients will have it further down the list as it drinks so well amongst more expensive wines. They grow a wide variety or grapes like Chardonnay, Colombard, Petit Manseng, Ugni Blanc, Merlot, Tannat & mostly blend them to create different styles. Their top cuvee the 'Family Reserve' is fantastic too & drinks like a fine wine for £12. As if they needed any more strings to their bow they make very high quality Armagnacs which is the spirit produced in the region. I urge you to dig in wholeheartedly!

Cantina Borga Prosecco When Prosecco became so popular a few years ago I had to do a lot of searching to find the quality I was looking for & also to stock one that no one else had! Borga extra dry Prosecco was my choice and this has proved a very good decision because everybody loves it and I sell a lot of it! Made from the Glera grape grown around Chariano, Treviso, it's produced by 4 cousins and their family have grown grapes in the area since 1940. I charge £11 for odd bottle buys, but as part of a case it becomes cheaper. They also make a smashing Pinot Grigio (£8) which knocks the socks off what you might find in a supermarket.
